چکیده

This paper presents polynomially solvable stochastic models to tackle the Vehicle Sharing System (VSS) pricing problem. We focus on optimizing the average number of trips sold with static demands, infinite station capacities and null transportation times. The stochastic VSS pricing problem is modeled as a closed queuing network with infinite buffers and continuous controls on transition rates for the pricing. This model is intractable for an explicit dynamic pricing optimization through the Markovian decision process framework. We study how to optimize on sub-classes of static policies, named symmetric and conservative, that have a special property: the uniform stationary distribution. For the symmetric policy optimization, we give a linear programming formulation with a size polynomial in the number of stations. We extend this formulation to provide a relaxation to the conservative policies optimization giving extremely often the optimum solution. Finally, an approximation as a simple Maximum Circulation problem is given and shown asymptotically optimal when the number of vehicles available tends to infinity.

A mathematical model for the electric vehicle routing with time windows considering queuing system at charging stations and alternative paths

Due to many damages that human activities have imposed on the environment, authorities, manufacturers, and industry owners have taken into account the development of supply chain more than ever. One of the most influential and essential human activities in the supply chain are transportation which green vehicles such as electric vehicles (EVs) are expected to generate higher economic and enviro...

Vehicle Sharing System Optimization: Scenario-based approach

One-way Vehicle Sharing Systems (VSS), such as Vélib’ Paris, have a poor performance without regulation. We want to improve the efficiency of VSS using design strategies or pricing as incentive. Stochastic models are intractable for the size of systems we want to tackle. We therefore discuss a scenario-based approach, i.e. off-line deterministic optimization problems on a given stochastic reali...

Advanced OR and AI Methods in Transportation INTEGRATED TRANSPORT AND LAND USE POLICIES FOR DEVELOPING COUNTRIES: RELOCATION OF RESIDENCES, ROAD PRICING AND TRANSIT SUBSIDY

Incompatibilities between urban transport and land use are rapidly growing in developing countries. Due to this mismatch, vehicle ownership is increasing dreadfully causing urban areas for various problems including congestion and air pollution. This study attempts to investigate the household travel behaviour on vehicle ownership, mode choice and trip sharing aspects by developing a nested log...

Pricing in Vehicle Sharing Systems: Optimization in queuing networks with product forms

One-way Vehicle Sharing Systems (VSS) such as Vélib’ Paris are flourishing. The usefulness of VSS for users is highly impacted by the availability of vehicles and parking spots. Most existing systems are ruled by the requests of users. We study the potential interest of influencing the users in order to improve the performance of the system. We focus on optimizing the number of trips taken in t...
